The Crusader’s swords symbolize the military heritage of the Canadian Army, while the maple leaf represents loyalty to Canada.
This Latin phrase means "We stand on guard for thee".

The recipient's emblems were originally approved in the name of Land Force Command in the Public Register of Arms, Flags and Badges of Canada, Volume III, page 400, 1 March 1998. A badge was subsequently approved for this recipient in Volume VI, page 212.
